It used to be that all of the best young jazz players were from bigger cities like New York, Chicago, and other big cities that had thriving professional jazz scenes. Now great high school jazz musicians are popping up everywhere. Great jazz musicians are more spread out because it is much easier to access the information than it used to be. It is no longer necessary to find a pro in your area that you can learn from. Now great musicians have a bevy of educational resources that they can offer via the CD, DVD, and via the internet.

One of the most recent developments in this field is the ability to take online lessons. Online lessons can be set up fairly easily through Skype. All you need is a Skype account and a computer with a web cam and you can start taking lessons from any of your favorite musicians that offer online lessons.

This is a fairly new method of teaching in the jazz community. Expect online lessons to start spreading like wildfire as soon students realize the access they have to greats all over the world, and teachers and musicians realize the positive effect that this can have on their income.
